Career Plans

I am currently attending Chemeketa Community College. I am taking prerequisite courses for my Dental Assisting certification. I am applying to enter the program next year and will hopefully graduate from the program next year as well. I am working toward finding a job in the workforce as a Dental Assistant, most likely in orthodontics.

While I work as a Dental Assistant I will be going back to Oregon State University to finish my undergraduate degree as a Civil Engineer. I will graduate in about 6 years from Oregon State University with my graduate’s degree. I hope to be able to join the work force soon after. I will have many employment opptions and opportunities open for me in this field of work, as I am a woman entering a male dominated work force. I do however quite enjoy building with rector sets and legos; I would like to take my building to the next level. Being able to build buildings, bridges, airplanes or cars would be amazing. I specifically will be specializing in geomatics; this is more often known as "seeing through the trees". This specifically means I will be using equipment to map land or testing to see how buildings, land, or other structures survive through natural disasters; natural disasters are synthesized through either the wave lab for tsunamis or bombs placed in the ground to imitate an earthquake or land slide.

When I finish the dental assisting program at Chemeketa, I will hopefully be entering the Dental workforce in orthodontics. The Dental Assisting workforce offers more avenues of careers though, such as oral surgeon, pediatrician, general dental practices, etc.. My hope is to be working as a dental assistant for Amborn orthadontics. I've job shadowed at Amborn orthodontics as well as several other places; having done my job shadow there I have fallen in love with orthodontics already and can't wait till I can enter the work force.
