Reading with Children
While working on writing an informative speech for my public speaking class, I was astonished by some of the statistics I learned in my research. Some children enter first grade with as little as 25 hours of reading; however some children have up to 1,500 hours of reading experience. The parent's responses are most often that they didn't have access to children's books or they didn't have time to read with their children. Reading with children is important as it expand vocabulary and spelling skills, develops lingustic capabilities, and gives motivation and self-confidence. Reading with your child in not only an bonding experience, but an activity that helps your child to become literate.
